In the DACHSER Podcast Network Talk, Aat van der Meer, Managing Director Benelux, talks about the special features of the Rotterdam logistics center in Waddinxveen, the integration of Müller Fresh Food Logistics, and the importance of the Benelux region for DACHSER. We asked him three key questions.
Quick Read
What makes the Rotterdam logistics center so special?
The Rotterdam logistics center in Waddinxveen brings together all of DACHSER’s services under one roof: European Logistics, Air & Sea Logistics, Food Logistics, and Contract Logistics. Its proximity to Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port, offers ideal conditions for networking road transport with air and sea freight. The cooperation between the local teams and the physical proximity ensure efficient processes and enable us to offer customers integrated solutions from a single source. In Waddinxveen, we quickly recognized the appeal of this approach for our customers: Today, we also offer contract logistics and value-added services such as picking and packing, and we also benefit from favorable customs regulations. Air and sea freight were added later, so that all services are now united under one management and one roof. The last piece of the puzzle was food logistics, which we also added to our service portfolio after the acquisition of Müller Fresh Food Logistics in 2023. The business continues to grow rapidly, and our most important customers are those located in the immediate vicinity of the branch.

How did the integration of Müller Fresh Food Logistics into the DACHSER network go?
The acquisition of Müller Fresh Food Logistics was an important step in expanding our food logistics offering in the Netherlands. The biggest challenge was integrating a smaller, family-run company into the structures of an international family business. Thanks to the existing cooperation, the integration went smoothly. Our recently opened food location in Waddinxveen offers state-of-the-art technology and three temperature zones for over 17,000 pallet spaces. Here, too, Müller employees contribute valuable expertise and, in return, benefit from DACHSER’s Europe-wide network.

What are DACHSER’s future plans for the Rotterdam logistics center and the Benelux region?
The success of the logistics center in Waddinxveen serves as a blueprint for other locations in the region. Additional branches are planned in the north and south of the Netherlands and in Belgium, particularly in Antwerp. The aim is to replicate the successful model and further expand our market position. The combination of location advantages, integrated business areas, and innovative technology – such as the use of AI and automation – is intended to establish DACHSER as a leading provider in European logistics in the long term, in the Benelux region and beyond.
