Since its launch a year ago in the northern Portuguese technology center of Porto, the DACHSER Corporate IT Hub team has already grown significantly. Sixty-seven employees from eight countries celebrated the inauguration of the new premises in the prestigious ICON Douro building. This number is expected to rise to 90 by the end of 2025, and DACHSER even expects this number to double to 120 employees by the end of 2026. This will make Porto the logistics service provider’s second-largest IT location, directly after its headquarters in Kempten, Germany.

The Corporate IT Hub strengthens DACHSER’s digitalization strategy. Together with their approximately 750 colleagues in Germany, France, Hong Kong, and the US, the teams in Porto are driving forward the development of innovative software products and solutions. They are further developing the integrated core logistics systems for transport and warehouse management and ensuring IT security. The expertise of the employees in Porto includes software engineering, front-end and back-end development, interface and user experience design (UI/UX), data analysis, quality assurance, cloud infrastructure, and project management—all areas of expertise that are essential for strengthening DACHSER’s global digital capabilities.

“On the way to achieving our mission of becoming the most integrated logistics provider worldwide, we must also become the most digitized logistics provider. The Corporate IT Hub Portugal strengthens our digital capabilities and thus also supports the growth of the company,” said Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) at DACHSER, at the opening of the new premises.

Focus on digitalization

Digitalization is one of DACHSER’s company-wide strategic focus programs. The digitalization strategy combines modern, customer-centric digital applications and platforms with highly integrated, self-developed systems for transport and warehousing. Important for the family-owned company DACHSER is its decidedly people-oriented approach, which promotes digital openness and competence (“digital mindset”) throughout the company.

Strategic location

The decision to invest in the Corporate IT Hub in Porto was strategic in nature. Porto combines proximity to leading universities, a vibrant international tech scene, and a high quality of life—all important factors in attracting talent. According to Ralf Morawietz, Corporate Director IT (CIO) at DACHSER, “The city of Porto offers a high level of innovation and expertise in the areas of technology and cybersecurity, as well as access to outstanding IT talent. Porto is undoubtedly on its way to becoming one of Europe’s most important technology centers.”

These are ideal conditions for DACHSER to continue growing in southwestern Europe and, from there, strengthen digitalization across its global network.
